Father God, we both know that I have a thing for things. When it’s called covetousness, it comes more into focus; as a lack of contentment. Your Word commands, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife… or anything that is your neighbor’s”.1
I recognize that my unfulfilled desire leads me away from true contentment in You. Forgive me, Lord, for allowing these desires to take control of my heart, and life.
You have taught us that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils”,2 and that it is through this craving that many have wandered away from the faith. I ask for Your strength to point me to true contentment in what You have provided.
Help me to “put to death what is earthly in me: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry”.3 Teach me to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness, knowing that all these things will be added unto me in Your perfect time.4 Guard my heart, Lord, so that I may not be lured and enticed by my own desires, which lead to sin and death.5
Instead, help me to be generous and not hold back, for it is more blessed to give than to receive.6 May I be content with what I have, trusting in Your promise that You will never leave me nor forsake me,7 in Jesus’ name.
