Jesus, You are the bravest Person who’s ever lived. I am not. In fact, I often live under my bed—figuratively speaking. But it’s a worthless way to deal with fear. Your Word warns about the fate of the cowardly, and I do not want to be counted among them.1 I desire to be bold and courageous, instead of fleeing from challenges or from standing firm in my faith. Help me to remember that You have given me a spirit not of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.2
Lord, I know that the fear of man can ensnare me, leading me to act contrary to Your will. Teach me to trust in You fully, for I find security in Your promises.3 When faced with opposition, help me to rejoice, knowing that my reward in heaven is great.4 May I stand firm in the truth, like Paul opposing Peter when he was tempted to give in to peer pressure.5
I want to reflect the courage you encourage in Your word, reminding me to trust that You are always with me.6 Even when I feel fearful, I ought to remember that You walk alongside me in every situation, comforting me.7 Help me to avoid the way of denial, like Peter did during Jesus’ trial, and to boldly proclaim Your truth, regardless of the consequences.8
Father, if I ever find myself backing away from hard situations, remind me of the importance of courage in following Your path. Just as You instructed Gideon to send home those who were fearful, may I also choose to rise above my fears.9 Comfort me, not just in my moments of weakness, but also inspire me to be a light for others who may struggle with the same cowardice. Thank You for being my source of strength and courage. Guide me as I strive to walk in faith instead of fear. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
