Death (of a loved one)

Lord… the hole that’s now in my life and heart is, at times, almost unbearable. So, I need You by my side. I need You holding me. You promised to comfort those who mourn, and I cling to that promise today.1 When I expand my view, I know that one day, You will wipe away every tear, and there will be no more death or pain.2

I am reminded of Jacob’s deep mourning for his son, refusing to be comforted.3 Sometimes, my grief feels overwhelming, and I, too, feel that nothing can bring comfort. Yet, I trust in Your love and ability to heal even the deepest wounds.

Thank You, God, for reminding me that I do not grieve without hope. Just as You raised Jesus from the dead, I believe that my loved one is with You. I will see them again in Your perfect timing.4 This assurance helps me to find peace.5

Give me strength to carry my grief. I know even in my weakest moment, Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in my weakness.6 Help me to cast my anxieties and pain upon You, knowing You care for me.7

Lord Jesus, just as You wept with Mary and Martha when they lost their brother, I know You weep with me.8 You understand the depth of my pain, and I find comfort in Your empathy and compassion. Help me to feel Your presence in my moments of loneliness and sadness.

Father, renew my spirit and replace my mourning with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding.9 Thank You for being my refuge and strength, my ever-present help in times of trouble.10 Guide me as I navigate this path of loss and let me find hope in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
