Divorce

Dear Father, I know that divorce is not Your plan for couples. Seeking Your help, I turn to You and Your Word. “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery”.1 These words weigh heavily on me. I feel the gravity of breaking a covenant that once meant so much. Please guide me in this emotional turmoil, as I seek to process the hurt and disappointment surrounding this separation.

You remind me that divorce was allowed due to the hardness of heart.2 I’ve tried to remain soft, to no avail. Nevertheless, help me to reflect on our relationship and understand the areas where we both needed growth.

I know that “the wife should not separate from her husband,” and I long for clarity and direction in this painful situation.3 If reconciliation is not feasible, grant me the courage to accept the reality of our separation. I pray for peace in my heart, knowing that in all circumstances, You have called me to peace.4 When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that I can find comfort in knowing that You are constantly with me.

Your Word emphasizes that we should honor the marriage covenant and treat it with respect. Help me to guard my spirit and remain faithful even in these trying times.5 I trust that You will guide me through the process of healing, giving me strength to embrace the future with hope.

As I process this divorce, fill me with Your love and wisdom. Help me to avoid bitterness and resentment, giving me a heart that seeks understanding and grace. I long to stand firm in Your truth and find my identity and worth in You alone. Thank You for being my refuge during this difficult time. May I lean on Your promises and trust that You will work all things together for my good and Your glory, 6 in Jesus’ name, Amen.
