Evil (Giving In To)

Lord, God, I first want to declare that You are holy and perfect. I’m here now, seeking strength and self-control in the face of evil temptations. Your Word teaches that no temptation has overtaken me that is not common to man, and I hold onto the truth that You are faithful to provide a way of escape so that I may endure.1 Help me to be strong and able to recognize when I’m being lied to, and to quickly choose You! Lord, I know that the world lies in the power of the evil one.2 He’s committed to leading me astray, but You are committed to my success.

Therefore, I want to be vigilant and sober-minded, aware that my adversary prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour3; me in this case. As I strive for greater self-control, I remember that I have been given a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline.4 Remind me daily that I can put to death what is earthly in me, including any sinful desires.5

Help me to fill my heart and mind with Your Word, which is profitable for teaching and correction, so that I may be equipped for every good work.6

Father, as I face the pressures from the world around me, help me to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit within me: love, joy, peace, and self-control.7 Let me not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of my mind.8 Fill my thoughts with Your truth and help me take every thought captive to obey You.9

Lastly, Lord, surround me with uplifting relationships and guide me away from those whose influence may lead me astray.10 I thank You for the hope found in You and for the promise of overcoming through Christ, who strengthens me, in Jesus’ name, I pray.
