Lord, I’ve always thought of idolatry as wood and stone idols, like in the Old Testament. I’ve come to realize that it’s ANYTHING that robs affectionate attention away from You. I’ve done that, made things idols in my life, and they’re empty. You will not allow other gods before You.1 Forgive me, Lord, for allowing “idols” to take Your place in my heart. Nothing should ever really fill that space.
Father, I ask for Your cleansing to put to death what is earthly in me —any impurities, passions, and desires that lead to idolatry.2 Help me to release anything I have placed above You, for I know that those who cling to worthless idols forsake the grace that could be theirs.3 Teach me, Lord, to treasure You above all else and to find my true satisfaction in You alone. I thank You for Your love, which is always available to those who turn back to You.4 Guide me in breaking free from idolatrous attachments, for I understand that my worship belongs only to You, the Creator, not to anything created.5 Remind me, Holy Spirit, to flee from idolatry and to cling solely to Your truth.6
Your Word says that when I am weak, You are strong.7 Strengthen me, Father, to resist the temptations of idolatry, knowing that You alone can fulfill the deepest longings of my soul. I repent of any rebellion in my heart, for I desire to walk in the light and freedom of Your love.8
Thank You, Lord, for the forgiveness You provide through Jesus, who redeems and restores me.9 Help me to worship You in spirit and truth, keeping my heart free from idols. May I live each day with a renewed commitment to honor You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
