Jesus, You wept when you heard that Lazarus had died. That story lets me know that You totally understand what I’m going through. You loved Lazarus, and even though You knew You would raise him from the dead, that news still stabbed Your heart. Well, I’m feeling the same way, and I need Your kind of faith and hope. Your Word reminds me not to grieve like those without hope; for I believe that Jesus died and rose again, and through Him, You will bring those who have fallen asleep back to life.1 Even though the pain is deep, I hold on to Your promise: one day, You will wipe away every tear, and death will be no more.2
Lord, You said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.3” Please comfort my heart and draw near to me, for You are close to the brokenhearted and save those crushed in spirit.4 Help me to trust in Your care, knowing that whether we live or die, we belong to You.5 Though my loved one cannot return to me, I find peace in the hope that I will go to them one day.6 Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in You, even if they die, will live.7 As I walk through this valley of grief, I will fear no evil because You are with me.8
I find hope in Your promise that death is swallowed up in victory. One day, at the sound of the trumpet, the dead will be raised imperishable.9 Help me to rest in the knowledge that to live is Christ, and to die is gain.10 Lord, I cast my anxieties on You, knowing that You care for me.11 Strengthen and uphold me with Your righteous hand.12 and remind me that nothing in all creation can separate me from Your love.13 Thank You for being the God of all comfort. Help me trust in Your eternal plan and find peace in knowing that You have prepared a place for us in Your presence.14 Amen.
