My Heavenly Father, first of all, I want to thank You for the years You have given me. I’m very blessed, and as I enter this season of my life, marked by old age, Your Word reminds me to remember my Creator, especially in my youth, before the days when pleasure turns to pain.1 I reflect on the challenges I now face… for example, my body is no longer as strong and agile as it once was. Yet, I hold onto Your promise that even in my old age, You will carry me through.2
Lord, I acknowledge the changes of aging, as the keepers of the house tremble and the grinders cease to function.3 As my energy declines, do not cast me off, for I know my strength is spent.4 Help me to embrace this time with wisdom, knowing that the aging process brings understanding and insight.5 As I travel this new and different road, it makes me happy that I can still bear fruit and flourish like the palm tree.6 Remind me that gray hair is a crown of glory, a testament to a life lived in righteousness.7 I desire to be a source of encouragement for those around me, as Your Word instructs me to embody dignity and self-control.8
Help me to be a mentor and guide, a grandmother or grandfather in faith to those younger than me. May I share my experiences and nurture the next generation with love and reverence.9 As the burdens of tomorrow weigh me down, remind me not to be anxious, for today has enough trouble of its own.10 Instead, teach me to find joy in each moment, trusting that You will renew my strength as I wait upon You.11 Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the precious gift of life in all its seasons. I trust that You will continue to be my support and sustainer every step of the way, in Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
