Parent/child (Poor Relationship)

Heavenly Father, I come before You today because things are not good with my child. I need Your help for both of us to repair our relationship. Your Word reminds me to not provoke my child to anger, but to raise them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.1 Forgive me for any harshness or neglect that may have discouraged them.2 I ask for Your wisdom to guide me in restoring this bond.

Lord, You have entrusted my children to me, and I know they are a precious heritage.3 Help me be patient, not easily angered, and to always respond with love.4 Your Word teaches that a soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger.5 Give me the humility to speak gently and to listen carefully while trying to understand.

Father, as I strive to train my child in the way they should go,6 I also ask for Your grace to show unconditional love, just as the father in the parable of the prodigal son welcomed his child back with open arms.7

Help me to reflect Your heart, to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger,8 knowing that my own anger does not produce the righteousness You desire.

I pray that the fruit of Your Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—will be evident in my interactions with my child.9 Help me to discipline with love, not with frustration, for Your discipline is a sign of Your love.10 Lord, restore trust, heal any wounds, and strengthen our relationship. Guide me as a parent, teaching me to reflect Your grace and mercy. I place my child and our relationship into Your loving hands, trusting that You will bring about reconciliation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
