You know, Jesus, You made our mind so that it almost never shuts off. It’s running all the time, even when we sleep. And yet You tell us to keep it in check. But You wouldn’t have said that if it weren’t possible. Let me add that I DO desire to honor You in my thoughts, keeping my mind set on things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable.1
Lord, I ask for Your help to flee from youthful passions and that you help me pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with a pure heart.2 I seek to put to death the desires of the flesh and to walk in the Spirit, as my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.3 Help me to resist the temptations of this world, knowing that You provide a way of escape in every temptation.4
I pray that You would renew my mind and transform my thoughts so that I may discern what is good, acceptable, and perfect in Your sight.5 Cleanse my heart, O Lord, and purify my mind so that I may see You.6 I trust that through Your grace, I can overcome the desires of the flesh and live in purity, knowing that those who sow to the Spirit will reap eternal life.7
I take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ, knowing that bad company corrupts good character.8 Help me surround myself with influences that honor You and strengthen me in my pursuit of purity. Empower me by Your Spirit to live a self-controlled, upright, and godly life in this present age.9
Lord, I place my mind and thoughts in Your hands. Strengthen me as I make every effort to honor You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
