Self-disapproval

Jesus, I’m burdened by the weight of my self-disapproval and the struggle within my own heart. Like Paul, I often find myself doing what I do not want to do and failing to do the good I desire. I know that it is not me, but the sin that dwells within me, that leads me astray.1 I confess my transgressions to You, acknowledging that my sin is ever before me.2 Yet, when my heart condemns me, I hold on to the truth that You are greater than my heart and know everything.3

Lord, I recognize that my own righteousness is like a polluted garment, and without Your grace, I am lost.4 But I cling to the promise that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.5 I ask that You search my heart and know my thoughts; if there is any grievous way in me, lead me in the way everlasting.6 Help me to embrace the godly grief that leads to repentance and salvation, without regret.7

Father, I am reminded that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.8 Yet, in Your mercy, You have made me Your own. I press on, not because I am perfect, but because Christ has made me His own. I strive to forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead, pursuing the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.9

I humbly acknowledge the deceitfulness of my own heart, knowing that it is sick and beyond understanding.10 Yet, I trust in Your grace and seek to think of myself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith You have given me.11 I humble myself before You, trusting You will lift me up.12

Thank You, Lord, for Your endless patience and mercy. Help me to see myself through Your eyes and to find peace in Your love. In Jesus’ name.
