Dear Jesus, I come to You with concerns that I’m not loving my spouse as You want me to. Your Word teaches that love is patient, kind, and not envious, boastful, or arrogant.1 It bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things.2 Well, I’ll be honest, my weakness is hindering me from loving my spouse as You have called me to do.
You’ve commanded husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church, sacrificially.3 This high calling often feels overwhelming, and I fear I may fall short in selflessness, patience, and kindness. But I hold onto the truth that love binds everything together in perfect harmony,4 and in this love, our marriage can reflect Your divine unity.
Lord, Your Word says there is no fear in love, and perfect love casts out fear.5 Help me trust in Your perfect love to overcome my fear of failure.
Teach me to love humbly, counting my spouse as more significant than myself.6 Help me to bear with them in humility, gentleness, and patience,7 knowing that love covers a multitude of sins.8Cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in me — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.9
Let my actions reflect Your sacrificial love, not just in word, but indeed and truth.10 In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
