Thought Life (Oppressive)

Father God, I’m here to talk about the thoughts that are tormenting me. They’re like a weird noise that is so distracting. I don’t know, and I almost don’t care, where they come from; what I do care about is You helping me.

Your Word instructs me to think on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable,1 but I often find my mind filled with the opposite: negativity, fear and anxiety. Help me, Lord, to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ,2 breaking the strongholds that hold me back from living in Your peace.

Renew my mind, Father, so that I will no longer conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by Your Spirit.3 I pray that You fill my thoughts with truth and guide me to discern what is good, acceptable, and perfect in Your will.

Lord, Your Word promises perfect peace for those whose minds are fixed on You.4 Help me to focus on heavenly things, not earthly distractions or worries.5 Let my thoughts and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You, for You are my Rock and Redeemer.6

I cast all my anxieties on You, knowing that tomorrow will have its own challenges, and You have already provided for today.7 Strengthen me to prepare my mind for action, to be sober-minded, and to set my hope fully on Your grace that is revealed through Christ.8 Renew the spirit of my mind daily, reminding me that I am a new creation in You.9

Guard my heart and mind, for from them flow the wellsprings of life.10 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try my thoughts and remove anything that is grievous or harmful within me.11 Lead me, Lord in my thought life and restore me with Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
