Tragedy

Please help me, Jesus. My heart is crushed by what has happened. I know You understand. You experienced sorrow when You heard that Lazarus had died. I am turning to You and Your Word… I want to take it in and let You wash my heart. You said, “we will face tribulation, but You have overcome the world1“. The fact that You acknowledge bad things will happen, helps me to trust You, especially now. I lean on Your promise that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those crushed in spirit.2

At times I want to lash out, but “vengeance belongs to You alone3“. So, I’m going to trust in Your will. Let my heart be filled with compassion as I navigate through this time of grief. I understand You do not cast off forever and that Your compassion is abundant.4 As I endure this suffering, may I hold onto the truth that You will bring beauty from ashes and joy from mourning.5 Please, grant me the strength to face each day, especially when it feels heavy with sorrow. Your Word declares You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.6 I cling to this promise.

Help me to count it all joy when I encounter trials, knowing that these challenges can produce steadfastness.7 Teach me to rejoice even when the fig tree bears no fruit, for I know You are my strength.8 In moments of despair, I will lift my eyes to You, knowing my help comes from the Maker of Heaven and Earth.9

When I experience fear, remind me of Your words: “Fear not, for I am with you”.10 Fill my heart with Your peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding, calming my troubled spirit.11 As I move through this season of tragedy, I trust that You will sustain me, guide me, and ultimately restore my joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
