God, as I’ve become closer to You, I still need help in resisting the pull of worldly values. I know that this world is full of temptations, distractions, and values that are contrary to Your will. Please guard my heart and help me not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of my mind.1 Lord, give me discernment to recognize what is good, acceptable, and perfect in Your sight, and not be swayed by fleeting desires.
Help me to set my mind on things above, not on earthly temptations.2 Remind me that friendship with worldly values is contrary to Your best for me.3 Teach me to desire Your will above all else. Guard me from loving the things of this world—whether it’s the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, or the pride of life.4 Let my heart find its true fulfillment in You, knowing that the world and its desires are passing away, but whoever does Your will abides forever.
Lord, I confess that at times I struggle with serving two masters. Help me to choose You over the pursuit of wealth or success in worldly terms.5 I know that I cannot serve both You and the world. Strengthen me to walk by Your Spirit, so that I do not gratify the desires of the flesh.6 May my life reflect Your love and truth, as I strive to live set apart from the world’s ways.7
Teach me to walk as a citizen of heaven,8 keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. I pray for the grace to live as a sojourner in this world, always longing for the day when I will be fully united with You, in Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
